Getting my 16 month off the bottle

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

My 16 month old can drink juice and water out of a sippy cup and a cup with a straw but she won't drink milk. Can someone please help me. I really want to try and get her off the bottle. I'd try to put milk in her cups but she would drink one sip and throw the cup. Any suggestions.

My doc told me to put water in the bottles and milk in the sippy. It's suppose to only take a few days before they get the hint that bottles don't have the good stuff anymore. I ended up buy the sippy cups with the straws and put milk in them and removed one bottle a week starting with the nap bottle until they were gone. No dramas. Good luck.

Hi there, I know what that is like! I just got my son off the bottles just before 18 months. It was a little bit of a battle. I tried slowly introducing sippy cups with milk in them and he would never take them. What I eventually did was cut him off the bottle cold turkey (I hid all of the bottles so he wouldn't see them). He was a little cranky for the first couple of days and asking for them but I didn't give in. The sippy cups that I used that he seemed to like the most were the nuby brand. Soon he forgot about the bottle and was drinking out of the sippy cup no problem. He will be 19 months right away and now loves any kind of sippy cups I give him. The only thing is I wish I would have done it sooner. I put it off cause I was dreading it so much but it wasn't really that bad.

The water in the bottle didn't work with my son I had to do what Amanda did and do cold turkey said that the bottles were gone and then just gave him milk in a sippy cup..but he just wanted juice and water so that's what I gave him...and he's 3 now and happy I think I did that when he was about 18 month too not too sure. If this doesn't work perhaps get the fairies or whatever hereos he likes to come and replace it with a special "milk" sippy cup BIG it up loads and make it exciting I've seen that done before but it was after I had weaned my boy off his otherwise that would of probably been better than cold turkey. Good Luck :D
