Help! I have tried several different ways to give my son his medicine, but nothing works. I resort to pinning him down and using a syringe every time and inbetween screaming and spitting he gets about half of it down. PLEASE help its traumatising I'm sure!!!

Someone I know suggested making calpol ice lollies for when babies teething ..
maybe you could try it for other medication?

using juice and the medicine.

I just recently went through that. Finally she said she wanted to do it. So I gave her the syringe and showed her how to do it and suddenly she takes her medicine like a big girl.

I would suggest mixing it with another food or drink. I don't know how much liquid it is, but maybe you could put it in applesauce or yogurt if those are foods he likes. If it's a prescription, I've heard from some other people (never done it myself) that the pharmacy can flavor medicines to make them taste better if that is why he won't take it.

My son absolutely hated liquid medicine of any kind by that age my dr. suggested that we try the chewables but only give him half and it worked great. I think now at least tylenol actually makes a chewable for age 2 and up. Most other liquids can be mixed in with their juice just make sure they drink all the juice so they get all the medicine.

Try making it into a game. If he likes to jump then tell him everytime he takes his medicine you will let him jump on a bouncy surface while holding your hands. If you are going to try it just make sure you bring him to the bouncy surface first along with the medicine and slowly introduce the idea to him. If you decide to mix his medicine with something else just make sure it is okay to mix with other drinks/foods.

I don't encourage it, but I know my sister in law mixes my nephews with chocolate milk...you could try it as a last resort.
