Hair Pulling

My 3yr old daughter has quite the temper and will sometimes pull her hair out when she is really angry (Usually at me when I scold her for something) She has occassionally gotten a good chunk out but then looks at it like she knew she's not supposed to do that. How do I handle it when she starts reaching and I know she's going to pull her hair again and what do I do after she's done it? How can I stop this? Thanks!

My son does this. But it's short so he doesn't pull any out. I don't make a big deal about it I treat it like any other tantrum. It might be a bit harder with a girl because there hair is longer. However if you make a big deal about it she may do it just to get a reaction out of you. When my son is outside now he is always eating the dirt and he smiles when he does it. I think he does it because I made such a big deal out of it the first time. He likes to get a rise out of me. So what i would do is address the tantrum and calmly pull her hand away from her head. good luck.

Distraction! Give her something to hold, a favourite teddy, toy, anything! Tell her to give teddy a big squeeze until she feels better? Could you tie her hair up out of the way? My little girl used to do this a lot and also twisted her hair in her sleep, I eventually cut it short because she looked like a street urchin! Distraction worked for the angry hair pulling though, hope it helps!
