Quoting Karrie:   AMEN

Quoting Melissa :

In all due respect, there are all walks of life and in MY walk of life, we celebrate the CHILD'S HOLIDAY, not satan. We take our kid around and let her get some candy, not to the corn field to slaughter a pig in sacrifice. So while I do respect your view Sarah, please respect mine. I celebrate Halloween with my daughter, just as my mom and dad celebrated it with me. I don't honestly think it harms her as I wouldn't ever do anything that would.

On another point, I AM a Christian and I do believe that you can teach your child right from wrong and that if you close them off to holiday's and PEOPLE that you feel isn't "right", then you are only setting them up for questions about life that they can't answer. You teach your child right, you hope they follow that lead and then you let them go on their own journey.

I don't think the fact that I let my child dress up like Dora for one night and collect candy from people that LOVE her is going to make her decide that God's not real and I'm not the one that's going to put that warped sense of reality in her head.

I teach God in my home. She KNOWS about him and about everything he's done for us. She is 2 and she can tell you names from the bible...so please don't tell me that me celebrating something that I celebrate for HER FUN is wrong.

So while this day may have started out in another way, TODAY it is a holiday that KIDS celebrate by getting candy and playing dress up. Those that use it as anything else aren't people I'd associate with in the first place, so I see no harm in letting her join in the fun. If you teach your kids about the world and about life and the right way to walk, then HOPEFULLY they are going to do what's right by God.

Oh, and on another point, Halloween is what I make it for my daughter. I could care less HOW it started. It's how it's celebrated and we celebrate it by getting dressed up and goofing off with my kid. 30 years ago they thought that black people were nothing but slaves...that they were lower than white people, and some people still practice that belief. Do you? I don't, but our ancestors may have and probably did. I believe that God didn't mean for us to act that way, but 30 years ago, THAT is what they thought.

A lot of bad things happend in the years past, 30, 40, 50, 200 years ago. I don't often lead by that example. Years ago, they taught me evolution in school..they still teach it, but I don't believe it and neither will my daughter because I've TAUGHT HER RIGHT. You can't use a holiday that people made up before you were even thought of, as a jumping off place to what you celebrate. Things change. This holiday is about candy and kids now. That's a FACT in my book of how to raise your child. You see it's all in how you use the information you're provided.

I don't think God is a stuffy as people want to make him. I think he's got an excellent sense of humor and that he even gets a kick out of things. I think that he meant for a kid to enjoy childhood or he wouldn't have given us the ability to laugh. Children are the most innocent people in the world. How they are molded into adults is MAINLY up to the parents. If you choose to let your child take part in a CHILDREN'S holiday (Which is what halloween is to me now), that is YOUR choice, but downing those that don't follow by your lead is not only wrong, it's judgmental.

How you interpret things kind of intrigues me. Forgiveness is preached in the bible too. God forgives, Jesus forgives someone every day, but when it comes to the HUMAN LIVES we lead, how often have we NOT forgave someone or something for hurt they've caused. So until the day we can do that, sinners who live in glass house, in my HONEST and blunt opinion, shouldn't throw stones.

I love you because you're family Sarah, but I don't honestly know or understand you. You add me because you know me and then you choose to erase anything I write on your profile, you won't answer questions for me and you all but attack my parenting skills on the issue of Halloween. I just don't get it. If you want to delete me, have at it. I went this many years of my life without knowing you, so I'm sure I'll be okay...however, it breaks my heart to know that you've shut so many people out of your life because of issues that God can forgive, but you can't. Because of things that hurt you or made you mad. God is a loving God and you're his soldier, so until you fix your own broken porch of unforgivenness, please stay off mine.

You're in my prayers...and I do honestly mean that.

I'm still trying to decide. I have 2 boys and they usually like to go as cartoon charactors, like batman or superman. Already have the trick or treating stuff planned, just have to figure out who they want to go as.

To me halloween was always a fun day for kids to dress up and get candy. I think that anything can be evil if you let it or celebrate it that way. I think that halloween is part of being a kid.

As far as a Christian is concerned I believe we have a responsibility to educate our children that halloween is not a holiday we should celebrate. research the origin of halloween.
