My son Is 3 1/2 and we have worked on everything with him , alphabet, numbers ,colors, name, address but he cannot tell colors. I myself carry the colorblind gene but do not want to say this is what it is. This is why I am asking how long It takes other moms with teaching their child or children colors?

My daughter is over 2 and knows all her colours.I find every couple of days l get out the same book and get her to read me the colours. She has known them since she was about 18 months. She pretty much knows her colours, counts to 13 on her own,can say certain letters in her name, recognises her name, knows about 22 body parts on her body, knows a couple of shapes, understands the alphabet but refuse s to say it,thats the only thing she wont say.is very frustrating because l know once she says it over and over she will know it.As long as he understands what the colours mean ,then he might take a little bit longer on learning them.I would try teaching him the same colour for a couple of days over and over until he got that one right and then move on to the next colour....all kids are different in learning.

Hi there Deiree,my daughter hasnt had an issue with colours,as she pretty much knows them. But what l found was try teaching him one colour at a time, even if you repest the same colour over a couple of times, until he gets it.Iknow it worked with my daughter.Everytime you show him something just ask him what colour it is so he understands it.By the way my daughter is 2yrs old....l hope that helps you...Leanne

My son started identifying his colors around 18 months. He learned his colors first followed by his shapes. By age 2 he knew them all. You should talk to your child's doctor about your concerns especially if you carry the colorblind gene. Best wishes to you!
