Hi my son was not born with a club foot but turned his feet in when he walked. We noticed this wehen he was 18 months old. I took him to a well known pediatrist and he recomended that we use correct moulding shoes that are approved by doctors - these shoes are called "walk mates" and you can purchase them at any Woolworths store. They have a huge range of shoes for babies to beginer walkers. It is important that our children wear the cortrect shoes when they start walking, it corrects alot of little things.

my 19 month son was born with a right clubfoot.. The doctors had detected it when i was still pregnant with him when i went in for an ultrasound...he is doing great!! Didnt need surgery, just casting when he was 11 days old and braces at nap and night time!! We have a great hospital here (Shriners Hospital) that has done wonders for him!

I my son Lando was born wit clubfoot and the first time I had to get his feetcast was the worst day of life. He was 6 days old. I would have loved to have had someone to talk to then. He is also two years old and I have to put hs shoes wth the bar on to keep his feet from turning back, but he is fine over all, nice to know someone else is goin through something similiar.

Karen, I hope all works out for your little girl soon! Poor thing must be so hard on both of you. Its hard enough for the littles ones to get the hang of walking let alone trying to do it with casts etc. As hard as that all was for you I'm sure it was all very well worth it. I would do it in a heart beat for my girl. Hope all goes well with her check up. Good luck.

hi jaci and robyn!
you were both quite lucky dat physio worked for your little ones! all that was tried with katelyn but her foot was too tight in position so she had to have surgery when she was 9mths, followed by casting for 4 mths and was then put in boots and bar (denis-browne splints) for 23hrs a day for a further 4mths, and since then she has to wear them at night up untill she's four! has been a long road!! she is due back 4 a check up nxt month!

Hi there. My daughter was cleared at the hospital when she was born of clubfoot but at her 4 month needles we saw a different dr as our usual one wasnt available. The new doctor asked us what we were doing about her clubfoot. We were very angry and confused because it wasnt picked up earlier! But we were referred to a public hospital who was hopeless. By the way we were still swaddling her for bedtime. We ended up going to a physiotherapist who only dealt with children and they told us to stop swaddling and they strapped her feet with athletes tape and told us to stoke the outside of her foot so she would turn it out. We were also told to buy a fisher price jumperoo. Her clubfoot cleared within 6 months and she is now walking with no signs of awkward feet :)

Hi Karen, My now nearly 23 yr old son was born with talipes also on his right foot. It was picked up whilst we were still in hospital and so he was referred immediately for physio treatment. He was strapped with sticky padded foam and every 2nd day back to hospital for physio manipulations. I was also told to bounce him on his feet after each bath to assit with correct positioning. It all worked well - althouhg was possibly over corrected. No-one would have known there was ever an issue at all. Good luck with your ongoing treatment.
