Alex has never been a good sleeper. Lately he's been fighting naps and waking up more often during the night. I've been hearing more and more about this 18 month old sleep regression...is this even a real thing? I've tried everything and nothing has worked so far. I'm so tired I could cry. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone! My daughter is almost 18 months (Jan. 2) and has started waking up more at night, wanting to nurse or play. She was sleeping really well until about a month ago and now it is an absolute fight to get her to sleep at night and naps.

I highly recommend the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Dr. Marc Weisbluth. It is great for any sleep problems in children. It was like the Bible to us for a few months when our son was not sleeping. I hope your son can get some well needed rest and you too. Best wishes.

It does get better. My oldest son is 2 1/2 years old now. But he use to be like your son. If my son gets up in the middle of the night it is for a drink or to go pee. Hang in there!

My twin sons are 15 months and I am noticing they are sleeping a lot less and fighting it a whole lot more. I think they are just growing up and not wanting to miss anything that may be going on.

I would make sure he is in a safe place (crib or playpen) in the room next to you and you take a nap. I could never do that but I read that tip in a magazine not too long ago. If you can do it then do it so you can get some rest!

I wish I could help you! My Alex is 17mo old and he stopped taking naps 2mo ago AND he won't sleep through the night. He seriously fights sleep. The only time he takes a nap is in the car, but at home he will stay up until 7-11pm and then wake up around 2-4 and stay up for at least 2hrs before going back to bed.

Sometimes when I take him to the mall to go run around, he seems to sleep better at nights, but aside from that, I'm just waiting for this phase to get over. All my kids did the same thing around this age and I was SO tired. My 2yr old does the same thing sometimes too still.

Hang in there!
