I don't have a good solution for you right now, dear, just wanted to let you know some children are really fearful about their own rooms.  Myself, I slept on the couch in the living room because it was next to my mom's room until I was about eleven years old.  It sounds like there is something he is really afraid of, maybe he has had night terrors or just nightmares about being alone in the room.  Have you tried staying in there with him until he goes to sleep?  It would be a pain but after a few days he might figure out that its not so scary after all.

First of all, I would consider removing the TV from his room.  Check out this website for reasons why.   http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/yourchild...

Then, you need to decide whether you are going to have a Child-run home or a Parent-run home.  Sounds like a battle of the wills.  If you sleep with your child or let your child sleep with you, you are giving into their will and letting them have their way.

I found with my son that the more you make a fuss about them staying in their own room, the more they rebell!!!!  I bath my son on a night and put him straight into bed with warm milk!!  I climb in beside him and lie about half hour till he is asleep!!!  I then creep out of his room and he is there all night!!!  If he awakes its normally around 7 and we get up!!!  Any earlier i just take him into our bed with no fuss, and a lot of the time he is happy to lie a while and askes to go into his own bed !!!!!!!

We struggle with this with our daughter. If we get her up early (which for us is 7:00 am or so) and make sure she runs off a lot of energy throughout the day, it seems to help. We don't let her eat sugar, and on the rare occasion she does, it can't be within hours of bedtime. We lie next to her to help her fall asleep in her room, then when she wakes up throughout the night, we really try to get her back to sleep in her own room. I would like to move toward letting her come and snuggle with us once it's light outside, but having her stay in her room until then. Good luck!
