My son is 14 month old at the end of this month and for the past week he has been shoving his fingers down is throat until he vomits. This doesnt only happen at a certain time of day it can be anytime. I have mentioned this to doctors but they just act as though i never asked anything. Its really distressing as i dont know what to do in order to make him stop. I have tried a slight tap on the hand, a stern NO even yelling but all to no avail. I was wondering if anyone else has a child that also does/did this and if so please could you share any advice on what to do. Thanks, Lisa, 23.

My daughter is the same age and has been doing this for about 3 or 4 months, we have found the only thing that works is ignoring it. If she vomits we clean it up as if nothing happened and she has quit doing it most the time (she does it once in a while still but it was really bad between 11-12 months). Just remember, its a phase...I try to breathe in and imagine that at some point I am going to miss this!

he may be doing it for attention. Try ignoring it. Just clean up the mess and move on, don't even act like anything happened.
If your pediatrician is ignoring your questions then you need to find a new one!! They are supposed to be there for YOU, YOU are the customer!!!

My son has done it on and off and now he is 2, I think it stops when they realize what they are doing and that gaging is NOT fun, I never said anything and he stopped on his own, hope this helps! :)

Dear sweet Lisa, I personally have NEVER heard of this. My 4 kids are grown and so are my friend's children. I would be very concerned. This could cause future health issue for your son! Find a Doctor who does care cause they are out there. Write Oprah, Dr. Phil, Dr Oz and make sure you you have shared about the extreme LACK of concern about the Doc's you have consulted with!!! This is very unusual and as you obviously know this is serious. My children are grown(4) and two grankiddles and my friends kids are grown. YOU will find a Doctor who does care and is educated. I don't want to scare you but he may have somehow been traumatized and you just don't know yet. From loving Mom (lke yourself), Please update me julieancourtney@gmail.com- I am concerned Thank you for sharing, It took alot of courage to do that. ♥ Julieann

My son went through a period of this and I know one of my friends sons did it as well. I think it is just another part of figuring out ause and affect and their body can do.
I would distrat him when he started doing it and eventually he just lost interest. Occaisionally he will still gag himself, but the incidents are pretty spread out now.
