Hi, does anyone have any suggestions about getting my 17 month old to eat? I try to offer him a variety of foods throughout the week (usually I will make a meal for myself and him as my partner works lates) but it seems to be hit and miss as to whether he will eat any of it at all, occasionally he will eat the food (i.e. roast dinner - a couple of pieces of roast potato, a couple of peas, a couple of pieces of brocolli etc and he will put the meat in his mouth chew it around for a bit and then spits it out), however, more often than not now he will put the food in his mouth chew it a couple of times and then spit it out and it's becoming increasingly frustrating for me as i don't think he is getting the nutrition he needs. He won't eat any whole fruit but will eat the heinz fruit pots and he eats fromage frais and has a big bowl of porridge for breakfast (but will only eat smooth porridge). He sometimes will eat toast and very rarely a sandwich (with soft cheese or ham) but very rarely. I'm running out of ideas now on what to cook him.

Hi i dont kow if this will make you feel better but i had a friend whos child done exactly the same. She visited the doctors and he said that a child who just chews food is gettin just as much nutrients as a child who swallows it. I guess this is because all the goodness in the juice that he swallows contain this. My daughter is not a very good eater and never has been, i just go with the flow now and she will eat when she is hungry, given up on trying to force her to eat as makes you stressed and the child.

Thanks Hayley, this has made me feel a little better, it just seems to be that all the people i know with children this age seem to have no problems and i just get so stressed out. It's good to know i'm not the only one with this problem, I think i will do the same and go with the flow from now on i guess he won't let himself starve and i really don't want mealtimes to become a battle of the wills as i think he'll win he's so stubborn. Thanks again x
