My 3 year old daughter has been peepee potty trained since before her 2nd birthday and she still will not poop on the potty. I give her a diaper during naps and bedtime b/c I don't want her to hold it in and that's when she poops. How do I get her to do it in the potty? I've tried having her sit on the potty with the diaper on and she wont do it like that either.

When my son was 2 he would pee on the potty and wore underwear all day but would wait until naptime/ nighttime to poop when he knew he had a diaper on. We tried many things but a neighbor told me to take away a toy everytime he poops in his nappy. She told me not to shout or make a big deal about an accident, just tell him calmly that he knows that poops need to go in the potty not in his diaper and that he can get the toy back when he poops in the potty. It worked! We kept the toy in a visible spot and it worked as motivation! We also showered him with praise everytime he tried and/ or suceeded in pooping in the potty. It took about 6 months of trying all diff methods to find one that worked so perservere, he is now 3 and takes himself to the potty to poop no problem :-)

I'm loosing my mind with my 3 year old son, he will pee on the potty but we too have been fighting with the poop thing for what seems like forever! I tried offering him a chocolate if he pooped on the potty that worked a couple times, then he lost interest, I now put together a "treasure box" with small toys, small chocolate bars, stickers, and talk to him daily that he can pick a treasure if he poops on the potty... so far this has failed too... I'm tired of cleaning poopy underwear! So those were the ideas I tried, if he poops his pants I show it to him and place it in the toilet, I just wish he would tell me when he feels like he needs to poo. So so far they haven't worked for me, but its an idea...the treasure box worked for my son's cousin.

another idea is putting the poop in the potty(providing it isnt too gross and squishy)off her diaper, so she gets the idea that is where u want it to go..

We put a calendar up on the bathroom door with Stickers next to it. My daughter had the same issue and we told her every time she went she would get a sticker. If she got stickers for the entire week she would get a prize. It took a few weeks, but she eventually went in the potty every day. I hope what ever solution you find to be best for you works out.

maybe offer a reward for pooping in the potty. as an example: "when you poop in the potty you can have a small snack" or play with a favorite toy that she doesn't get to play with, piece of candy or anything. never say "if you go" because if gives her a choice, when is much better. something to get her motivated to go in the potty versus the diaper.
