I agree- ignore it. Mine does so as well, and stops as soon as I turn my back and walk out of the room. She's not going to hit it so hard as to give herself a concussion or anything. Good luck!

My little boy when he was probably only about one, started to have a little tantrum and literally throw himself backwards and whack his head on the floor really hard, the first few times I though OMG and would rush over and make a fuss of him, but soon decided to ignore this behavour as it was making him do it! After about five more tantrums and me ignoring him he stopped doing it completely. He is now 18 months and hasnt had a tantrum since (although I know they are likely to come back again! lol). Good luck I know its difficult to watch and it is worrying that they will really hurt themselves, but theyre not silly and wont normally deliberately cause themselves pain.

My in-law did the same thing when she was little. Now she is a well-adjusted clinical psychologist.

She has realized that she can get your attention if she hurts herself. your attention is reinforcing the behavior.Chances are that she will find out the pain is not worth the attention, especially if you choose to ignore it.
