I just posted about this on another conversation - my sister (who works with 1 - 2 year olds in a daycare) suggested using target words like "owie" and "gentle touches" - with gentle touches actually taking their hand and gently stroking your face, or whoever or whatever they may have just hit. Good luck - I'm dealing with the same thing. Since they are so young, I know it will just take repetition after repetition!

Can I ask if she is ever smacked for naughty behaviour? Its just that I have found from past experience that if anyone is using smacking to punish, it just teaches kids to smack themselves. If this is not the case then just remember to keep telling her why smacking is naughty, and if she continues to do it, try putting her in time out for minute or so. If she see's that she is getting no attention for the hitting then she should stop doing it. Hope this helps, good luck. :-)

That is normal for that age. Every time she does it make sure you tell her no and explain that it is not nice to hit people. She will grow out of it. My son went through that too.
