how can I get my 2 year old almost 3 to stop clinging to me all the time?

all she wants to do is sit on top of me all the time and has to sleep with me. When it's bedtime she has to have her arm under me and her face touching mine...when I decide to get up it is not long before she notices and starts crying for me to get back in bed with her. This is at nap time too. She won't go to sleep by herself!

Good, glad it's going well. Don't give in or she will just hold out longer for you to give in.

Good luck Alisha! I hope things improve for you and your family. Being a mom can be so exhausting and I know how important it is to get a break. I hope this technique sets you free, so to speak.

I'm sorry to say that I think your only choice is a little tough love.

I think sometimes when we parents do things for the first time we don't realize that we can be creating an expectation....a new habit ..if you will. Essentially, she has been taught ..or learned..whichever you prefer..that she can get away with making you lay with her.
I'm sure it didn't happen over night. You probably gave her an inch and gradually she took a mile without anyone noticing.

Taking back the mile is the challenge. Here is a video that you may find helpful. I have seen this work..and used it with my own children when we switched from crib to real bed.
