just talk to him alot - point things out and tell him what they are, ask him if he can say what they are after you. if he grunts/whines for something, tell him he has to use his words if he wants it ie "you want a drink? can you ask mommy for 'water'?" and don't give it to him until he gives a good try. i find boys tend to be a little later in the speech department then girls (not all but most i've worked with). your dr will probably be taking note of this soon as well and may recommend speech therapy. my son's dr at his 18 month check up said if he wasn't speaking more by his 2 yr appt she would talk to me about therapy. i'm going to give him more time because he is coming around, i think he's just a little lazy because he knows dad will give him what he wants by pointing
