I would try cleaning him up, then go spend ten minutes sitting on the potty. You KNOW he's not going to go, he just went. But maybe making the association between uncomfortable diaper and sitting on the potty can make a lightbulb come on over his head.
Another thing I might try in desperation would be to dump the soiled diaper contents INTO the training potty. Let him see that THIS is where it goes in the end. It doesn't have to make a pit stop in his pants first.

Recognizing that he is wet is the first step. Try creating a routine where you sit him on the potty for perhaps 10 minutes at a time (especially after he has has something to drink). Keep practicing and you should be able to time it that he goes in the potty. Then he'll have a sense of what that feels like and you can work on doing it again. When I trained my son I put him in big boy underwear and sat him on the potty every 30 minutes. He had a lot of accidents but by the 3rd day was able to tell me when he had to go.

What I have done was after I gave him something to drink I would wait a while then ask or just take my son to the bathroom. Boys are so hard to potty train and they never want to wipe their butt after a poo.
