How do I deal with my 3yr. old tantrums

As long as my son isn't in danger of hurting himself, I ignore his tantrums. Any attention I give him reinforces the behavior and I have learned that talking to him or trying to discipline him makes it worse.

I tell my son that he needs to stop or he can go to his room. Then he has the choise to stop and continue to play or go to his room where I dont have to hear it.

He will almost always stop the tamtrum.

I ignore when my son has tatrums or I even tell him I understand how you feel and we can talk about it when your finished. Seems to work with mine...sometimes it's just that he things you really don't hear him or understand what he's doing or wants and why...and it might help to let him know you really do understand.

I have tried a few approaches, and we are still figuring it out as we go, but usually I try to tell mine that if she wants to cry/whine/throw a fit she can do it in her bedroom. Sometimes that is enough to get her to stop.
