How do I get my 2 year old and 7 month old off the binky?

My mom told me the funniest story about me as a baby - but I wouldn't give up bottles. I guess you could apply this to binkies as well. She told me that by the age of 2, all babies have to give up their bottles(or binkies) so that all the new babies can have them. When I protested, she told me that it's the law and we have to take them and drop them off at the doctor's office. My mom pre arranged with my pediatrician to go along with the story. So she had me help gather up all the bottles and nipples and put them in a bag and off we went to the pediatrician. I gladly handed them over like a big girl. But on the way home I promptly declared it was time to go to the store to get new bottles! LOL
You can also try the "binky fairy" story. (Sort of like the tooth fairy.....)

With both of my boys we just started giving it to them less and less. We stopped giving it to them except at nap and bedtime. After a week or two of that we stopped all together. They transitioned very easily and have never asked for them again.

My daughter was 2 1/2 when she gave hers up. My husband and I told her her little brother was on the way and "babies" could help us. Try giving them something to take care of, like one of those Fur real toys. Tell them babies can't have them they are just for big kids. That way they have something that will comfort as well as give them the sense that they are caring for something. Hope it helps.

Cut off the tips, or let him cut off the tips. Then no sucking satisfaction can come from it. If it was me, I would just toss them all when he wasn't looking. It'll be rough for a couple of days, but I promise he'll be fine.

When my son was 2.5 years old I told him that Santa was coming to take away all his baby stuff and his Binky was one of the things Santa was going to take. Santa was going to leave him big boy presents but other babies needed the Binkys so Santa was coming to get them. Just be ready my son had a hard time sleeping for about 4 days before he just forgot about the Binky!
