stay until your child falls asleep when he does leave if he comes back in your room bring him straight back dont give in and in a few weeks he should realise his own bed is where he sleeps.

Supernanny recommends two methods. I used the first one for my daughter when i first put her in her toddler bed. it worked pretty well.

1. put child in bed using whatever nighttime routine you have we do a bath, snuggling and tv, and a story.

2. sit in his room on the floor, but do not look at or speak to him.

3. when he gets out of bed (and he will)

a. first time tell him it's bedtime honey and place him back in bed sit back on floor

b. second time tell him sternly bedtime and place him back in bed sit back on floor

c. every other time he gets out. NO WORDs place him back in bed sit back on floor

4. once he's almost asleep leave the room and if he gets out to find you. straight back to bed.

this may take a few nights, but it really works. and he wont get too upset that you aren't there cuz you are.

second method is basically the same as the first except you don't wait in their room, you go about your regular eve. routine and wait for him to leave his room. this seemed like a lot of running in my house cuz we have 2 floors that is why i did the method where you stay in their room, but pay NO attention to them whatsoever. Worked really well for me, but i did it really young (15 mos.) but supernanny has done it with toddler aged kids too. it just might take a little longer. good luck. and i might suggest you not allow your daughter to ever sleep in your bed. she will be much easier to transition later. good luck
