I just went thru this with my son. He had pretty much destroyed his old one. We took it away and replaced it with a new one. he didn't want that one, he wanted his old one. It was gone, so he just doesn't use one now. He did cry briefly for a few nights, and still fusses a little at naptime, but i'm sure that soon, he will sleep as though he's never needed it.

I tried a couple different things with my almost 3-year old. Giving them away to another baby worked very well while on vacation, but I forgot to take the one out of her bed. So, I gave it back. Then, we tried cutting off a little bit at a time until there was only about an eighth of an inch left... this process took a couple weeks. Eventually, my little girl said, "It's broken." I said, "Yes, it is. I guess you'll get to be a big girl now." And, she has been great... no crying with this method. She was only using the pacifier at naptime and at night. She hasn't even bothered our new baby's pacifiers either.

I don't know what kind you have but we just put a little hole in it and within a few days she didn't want it anymore.

We were pushing our daughter in the stroller and she threw it out in the road. We told her that we're not going to get it and now it's gone. She asked for it just a few times and then nothing. She had just turned 2.

I have a year old who has them only for naps and if her teeth hurt since she cutting teeth. She was a junkie from the hospital, they gave it to her. I took them away, told her big girls don't use them. However, she always playing with bigger kids and she sees they don't have them so she don't want them, unless she bad off.
