How do I start potty training?

My daughter turns 2 in May and I think she's ready to start potty training. She has started removing her diapers and we practice the word potty however she can't talk very clearly so I didn't know when to start. But she's a smart little girl and I think she'll train quickly. So how do I start the process?

About what Melissa said with one other thing, RELAX. If you don't it will take forever and they will pick up you tension and generally stop. If it doesn't work straight away don't worry just go with it. They alway learn in the end and as you said she's smart and you sound like your are pretty much on the ball with her. Good luck and enjoy this next step in independence.

Great advice melissa - this was also a very touchy subject in our house. We finally bad a breakthough but not after I was crying on the bathroom floor a couple of times. Ive come to the conclucion pottytraining is not for sissy's. We had our daughter help past stickers on her potty( thy only become visible when she uses the potty).I also found if we start the day right - it all goes pretty well from there...first thing in the morning take of the diper and take her to her potty have her choose the under wear she wants to wear 2day...(maybe get her underwear with pictures and diffirent colours...and have her only wear those during the day the first few days are very messy. but dont scold if she messes show her it was wrong and that she should tell jou when she wants to go...she will learn the feeling that comes before the mess and worn you. (We were told pulups confuse them and makes them lazy to go to the bathroom so we decided to go directly to underwear...after she has fallen asleep - feel free to put on a diper) Sure youl be awesome...

Well I thought the same thing about my daughter but what I found is that she decided besides my efforts, with your guidence when they will start going when they are ready. Put a potty in the bathroom, talk about it when she goes in her diaper, and go through a run through 3 day period where you take her like every half hour. And stick with it but they really decide when they are ready. Mine wasn't ready until 2 3/4. If its a complete failure quit for a couple weeks and then try again but I don't give up and dont' force it to much. It is so worth it when it happens. You can do it!

well with both of my girls i put them in dresses or shirts in the summer with nothing else under it unless i went out and every couple of min. i would say lets go potty. also when u go to the bathroom take her too and have her sit on the potty with nothing on. she will not be fully potty trained until she is around 3.
