I let her do them in her nappy, then i put the poop in the potty afterwards, and told her thats where they go, we all did a huge song and dance when she did her first one in the potty! give him a book or read to him while hes sat on the potty, so he can stay on there for a good while.

The reason why he might not be doing a number 2, is because it may scare him. Put toilet paper on the bottom of the toilet so it doesn't splash up and get him on the bum. Sing along to his favourite song while he's doing it and that will help block out the noise. This helped my 3.5 yrold at only 15 months and we haven't looked back since. Its not a scary time when she goes to the toilet, its a fun, sing along time with mummy. Good luck

my little girl jus done her first the other day thought she was going 2 wee so told her potty n was shocked wen she pooed instead but making a fuss is the best thing 2 show ur child that its fun n they will do it again.i also founed number 2s r easyer as they jus stand there so if put potty nxt 2 them n put them on it u`ll find they`ll do it without noticing at first then jus pick it up that way.

I've posted this somewhere before....  This tip was given to me by another mom on here.  My son has been potty trained for almost a year now (except for poop) He was deathly afraid of pooping in the toilet and we got to the point he would just go to the closet, put on a pull-up go to his toy room to poop then call for me to change him.  My son just turned 3.5 and this is what worked for him.   Here goes.

Step 1 - allow him to poop in his pull-up, but he must be in the bathroom (just being in the bathroom as opposed to his room, the closet or whereever he may go).  We did this routine for about 3 weeks.

Step 2 - allow him to poop in his pull-ups, but he must be sitting on the toilet. This took about 2 tries before he was comfortable, but since he already sat on the toilet to go pee, it was just an adjustment to actually poop in his pull-ups while sitting on the toilet.  I would peel off his pull-up and dump the poop into the toilet.  We would wipe and then put on his underwear for the rest of the day.  We did this for about 3.5 weeks.

Now my son suddenly and without any prompting up and chose to do poop in the toilet one day after just these two steps.  He told us he was a big boy and didn't need his pull-ups anymore.  It was like a switch just came on in his head!

If needed though:

Step 3 - Without him noticing, cut a whole in the bottom of the pull-up (hopefully he won't notice when you are putting it on him) so that when he is wearing it and sitting on the toilet, the poop will fall right into the toilet.  You can tell him he is such a big boy now, that the poop blew a whole in his pull-up and he no longer needs one!

Best of luck!

try rewarding him with his fav food. maybe get a step seat for the toilet and tell him u do poos in toilet and he can to. if he does reward him and make a big commotion out of it.
