I have a good schedule. I have four children, I work from home, and I am going to college online. In order to do all of this I have to have a schedule and a routine. My kids know that in the morning they make their own cereal, while I get business done. By 9 I am done, and we all clean up breakfast and get ready for the day. We do some reading, and an out door activity. Sometimes my business calls for extra work, so I do it during snack time at 10. Then we do something together as a family, usually art stuff. Lunch at 1130, naptime by 1230. Two older ones play quietly. During this time I do my school work and any other business stuff, check email, play online whatever, it is my free time. By 3 it is time for chores, snack and some tv time. Dinner at 530, then we play outside. Baths, brush teeth and bed time for younger 2 at 7, and homework for the older 2, then bed at 8.
Pick some times that things should get done at, and stick to it. Luckily most of my work can get done whenever. I can do school whenever, and earn money whenever. So I just need to keep the kids organized.

Wow, thanks so much for your replies. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one in the same boat :) I think the repeated theme here is plan ahead of time and make routines/schedules. I use Cozi (www.cozi.com) for my task, groceries, chore lists and their online calendar is also great. Thanks so much for all your tips! Very reassuring :)

Okay, compared to the moms of multiple children, I feel like an amateur, but here are my organization tips. I keep a master to-do list of all of the things that pop into my head. It's a little notebook that I keep in my purse so it's always handy. Daily, I take two or three minutes and go through that list to figure out what I need to do that day and write it on a post-it and keep it where I can see it, like on my computer or wallet. Second, I use google calendar but there are a lot of other internet calendars that are free. Cozi is a good one. With the online calendar, my husband can upload his appointments from work and I can do the same so we don't forget to write them on our home calendar. Yes, we also have a home calendar that hangs on the garage door so we can glance at it on our way out the door. These things help me figure out where everyone will be and when and get everything done that needs to be done, one day at a time!

I have found that writing down all the tasks and appointments on the calender function of gmail helps to keep me organised and I know what is happening the next day and week and can plan for things rather than having to remember them.

Hi Aarati, I am a mum of 3 and a childminder but I never seem to be organised!!!

I am quite laid back but the most important thing for me is to do as much as I can the night before - uniforms ready & in piles, lunchboxes packed, school bags by the front door - even then I still find myself running around like a headless chicken :-)
