How much milk is too little for a 17 month old?

My 17 month old is refusing his bedtime sippy cup of milk, is this ok? He is not a lover of milk and I am afraid he is not getting enough calcium.

if he's getting other foods with calcium he should be fine (cheese, broccoli, yogurt to name a few). i asked my dr about this as well because my son didn't love milk for a bit either. she told me that sometimes if children are fussy eaters and don't drink milk she'll suggest giving them half a tums a day...that's something to consider asking your dr about if you're still concerned.

I was told by my daughter's ped that 1-2 year olds should have between 16 and 24 ounces of milk a day. However it was more important the it didn't go over 24 ounces than if it was under the 16 ounce range.

It is more important for the fat than the calcium. So you might need to give him things with more fat in it like avocados. So many things are fortified with calcium he's most likely getting it from other sources.

Our son was never a fan of milk at that age either. He would drink a cup when he would wake up in the morning and another one throughout the day but that's about it. I was just sure to offer foods high in calcium to meet his calcium needs. I would also and still do give him a daily multi vitamin.

Thanks, Karen. He is a pretty good eater otherwise, so he is probably ok. I will look into the tums suggestion the next time we see our doctor. Thanks again!
