My daughter is 17 months old, and she isn't talking, but everyone else her age is. I know that it's normal for her not to be talking yet, i was just curious.

thanks

My daughter started talking early, but my best friend's son didn't speak a word until he was two! Her son now has a better vocabulary than my daughter. She'll talk when she's ready! Don't worry!!

My son started to say dada when he was bout a yr old. It wasn't til he was bout a 1 1/2 that he started to get the concept that I was mommy n not sheila(which is my name). It takes time for kids to start talking. Some sooner than others. I know plenty of kids that talk a lot clearer at an early age than what my son is right now. It depends on a l,ot of factors also. If the child is in daycare, thenn they tend to start a lot sooner.

they all start at different times. my son started before he was 1, i had a cousin that was 4 and all he could say was "mama" and "coke". i think some kids start later cause their parents adapt to their language and gestures, therefore making them lazy on trying to learn to speak. i think the best thing we can do is talk to them as normal as we can, no baby talk, and maybe even pretend not to understand them when they are trying to say something, so that way thy try harder and make the effort to learn. good luck! ;)

My son is 2 1/2 and he is just starting to talk, He has a speech therapist but its really just to support his speech there isn't anything wrong with him he is just a late talker. So don't worry enjoy it cause once they start they never stop..lol..

Children talk at different rates and you really can't compare your child to others. There are so many milestones to reach and they all get there eventually. Give her more time and she'll get there. Talk to her doctor at her 2 year old appt. if you are still worried. My son didn't really start talking until he was 2 and now he won't be quiet!

My son is 18 months this week and says mama, dada and just started say ta for thank you. Our doctor said not to worry about it if they are pointing and trying to communicate in other ways.

Baby Sign Language for hearing babies might be helpful. Research has shown that it improves speech development by increasing the understanding of the meaning of words. Every childs developmental timetable is different and so is their preferred mode of learning. It would also allow her to a means of communicating with you until her speech develops. Here is a link for some more information: http://www.toddlerinterpreter.com Hope that helps and good luck!

My eldest daughter started talking or saying words when she was about 13-14 months old, now my youngest who is 2 now started talking around 11 months...the best advice I can give is if your unsure of something ask your doctor...every time we take our girls in we ask if we think development wise or if we have a concern that something isn't right...ohh and a big thing that helped us was no baby talk...we used big words and correct words we didn't dumb it down. Hope it helps
