I hope someone has some good advice soon. I have the same problem. I also use the 1-2-3 and it works most of the time. The key is to make sure you follow through with whatever you tell them. Example: I will tell my children if you don't "stop arguing" you will both go to bed. Then I count 1-2-3. If you get to 3 send them to bed. If you don't follow through they know they can walk all over you. I believe the follow through is key.

Good Luck!

how to make kids ages 3 and 5 listen

Hi sometimes i do wish my son would listen to me. But the method i use to my son is a soft tone he won't listen when i raise my voice or shout at him. What i usually do is to treat him as a kid or an adult. Just tell him the reason why he need to listen to you and if not he is going to get hurt eg climbing up to the high furniture. You just let him do the climbing if he doesnt listen and if he is going to fall just let him be if not he wont learn but of course you must make sure he will not end up with a fracture. From then on he knows and listen and of course not always... :)

I use the book 1-2-3 Magic. It hasn't worked as well for me as the book says, but it definately has helped a lot. I think the biggest key is to be consistent with what you do. There are many times that I count my daughter and after one or two she stop whining. The whining is our biggest problem! Good luck to you!

At the moment the only thing that she seems to listen to is when I scream at her or if I tell her she wont b getting something big like her birthdya party that is coming up or ill throw away her toys. I would love if someone could answer this as i hate doing this to my daughter and need some advice also...
