How will I know when my toddler is ready to potty train?

He is 23 months old today and I just had his baby sister 6 weeks ago. Is it too soon to think about potty training after such a big life change (having a new baby in the house) ?

I don't think it's too early to think about it. Too early to think about no diapers at all maybe. I started my DS before he was a year old he is now 2.5. Not to as much go tinkle but mostly to get used to the potty. He ended up pooing in the potty more often. It's taken a little over a year and he now is pretty dry. Boys do seem to take longer. It could be a little stressful for him if trying to completly train him now with the new baby. As I do know that some children regress. They try to use the babies binkies, take their bottles, even start in their pants again so they can wear diapers like the baby. My DS told me he wanted the potty when he was ready to seriously start. When that came I bought him more cloth trainers *big boy pants* and a potty chair. That was only about four months ago. So be patient.

Ih ave read that most boys potty train around 2.5 - 3 years your son is still a bit young. When he gets a little older you could start introducing the potty and really start training him when he is also interested, do not force him into it. Here are some potty training info that should really help you out:

My oldest is 3 and a half this month, he tells everyone that he has to go to the bathroom but if it's me he rather just do it in his pants. We've been full out potty training him since september. My middle son is 2 and a half this month, he is just now asking to go poop and pee on the potty at least once a day. So we will be starting to potty train him fully very soon.

A lot of people say boys take son is 3 years and 4 months...and I just got him potty trained this week. He just wasnt ready and refused to have anything to do with the potty. I had him trained in less than 24 hours because I caught him at the right time!! He still wears a diaper to naps and bedtime but during the day he prances around in his little He is able to pull them up and down all by himself..and he doesnt even come to me when he needs to go..he just goes and sits down on the potty! You can give your son some extra time if he's not ready!
