Is 2 1/2 too young to begin preschool, 2 times per week (total of 5 hrs)?

My son is 2 1/2 and we are debating about sending him to preschool in January. I know it would be great for him but I'm just worried it's too young. This wouldn't be for daycare, just socialization and hopefully help him advance his speech a bit.

My son is 2 1/2 and about to start preschool. He is sooo excited and I think he is really ready. Same as you, its not for daycare, but its gotten to the point that he needs more stimulation and really craves being around other kids. He is such a sponge, I'm hoping they will enrich his learning more than I could at home.

It all depends, I have a 2 1/2 year old but I am opting to not put her into preschool as it is still another 3 years before she goes to kindergarten, however I also work w/ her at home on her colors, alphabet, numbers etc....for socialization I do story time at our local library, she has playdates & she does gymnastics so she gets plenty of interaction w/ kids her own age.

My son started with daycare in a preschool setting when he was 10 months old as I had to go back to work. He loves it!! I have seen him learn so much and do activities that I would never have done with him at home, with the added bonus of socialising with his peer group. He has become very kind, he can understand sharing, is brilliant walking out with us ( he holds onto the pram ) all taught at the preschool. I wouldn't worry about your son, he will have a brilliant time, and you will get a couple of days to yourself to do chores, shopping etc.... which in turn will give you more time with him when he's home..... GO FOR IT!! ;)

Thanks for all your comments. I'm sure he's going to love it. Guess I just still think of him as a baby and that he is still so young. It's not like he's going to be pushed into learning advanced Math or anything LOL!

I don't think it's too young, especially since it's only 2 days a week. The structure and socialization aspect of preschool is very beneficial. My son loves preschool.

Hi I dont think it is to young, my daughter starts pre school this month and she is 2 1/2 and I think she is completely ready for it. As she has been slow in developing was a late walker etc and I to am hoping that it will bring her on with her development and think it is a great idea that they can take them from a bit younger as I personally think it will help them. She also now gets bored at home and im running out of things to do with her and also will be able to spend a bit more time with her younger brother and help him develop. You should do what you think is best at the end ofthe day and im sure whatever you decide your little boy will definately grow from it.
