Our portable DVD player has been wonderful during long car rides. I definitely agree with coloring books, new toys, books, snacks and drinks. A change of clothes, lots of diapers and wipes.

I took my daughter when she was 4 1/2 months old from yellowknife to halifax.. which was about a 18 hour day, if not longer.. and started extreamly early in the morning. I also flew to halifax to london ont by myself which was a 2-3 hr flight and then back .. and then another 18 hour day back to yellowknife when she was about 9 months old. My suggestion is. Bring a bag with already prepared snacks, drinks prepared.. a cooler may help. And differnt toys. touch and feel books help, Toys that she has to concentrate on. Ihave a little box with differnt shapes that blocks fit into. My daughter lovesthat and she find its hard to get them all.. shes now 1.1/2 However they can also throw them. wish you good luck, take deep breaths and dont feel bad or upset if you need to ask for help. They're hard work. :)

13 hours is a long flight... You'll definitely get some sleep time in there. I would also recommend a variety of snacks, a drink and a new book.... We had a 5 1/2 hour flight and it was a lot of work keeping the kids (1 year and 2 1/2 years) busy. The kids played with the inserts from the seats and we sang and played patty cake/itzy bitzy spider to help keep them busy... We were completely exhausted! Good luck!

Well, I didn't take as long of a flight but having crayons and a coloring book helped with my daughter when we took a 2.5 hour flight this past March. I also brought a couple of new toys she had never played with before, and that seemed to keep her entertained.
