My 16 month old son is mean! I don't know why or where he gets it from and I don't know what to do about it. If you pick him up, he immediately slaps you in the face. He already bites his big sister and is just plain mean! Any suggestions on how to calm him down and how do I punish him?

I know sometimes it takes getting down to their level and grabbing their hand and sternly saying, " we do not hit. That is not ok"

My daughter learned that way. However, boys tend to be quite a bit different sometimes. Every child is different.

Good luck with it.

Hi Mistie

Does your little one play with lots of older children? If so she may be copying what he sees from other older children are doing. My son started to hit me in the face when i picked him up and after a while I got fed up with it so what i did was, the first time i would just say NO be gental, if he continued i would grab his hands and say No but if he still carried on i would put him down and walk away. it took a while but he soon relised that if he did then he woukl not get cuddles with me.

As for biting, i haven't had that with my son but what I would do is move him away and not let him play, sit him down on your lap on in a specific spot let him claim down a bit before letting him play again either on his own or with his sister.
