Moved him to a toddler bed last night

My son is 25 months old and yesterday we converted his crib to a toddler bed because in 2 months we want to do traveling without having to rent a crib. I explained to him that this is his big boy bed. His reaction? Now he can jump on his bed whenever he wants to! Didn't see that coming. When it was time for bed we read books and then he climbed in and I covered him up and he went to sleep without a sound. This morning I woke up at 6 am wondering what I would find, and at 7:30 we heard him talking to himself as usual. I went in and got him dressed. I can't believe he was so good. What was your experience moving your child to a toddler bed?

We did it and didn't have many issues either. We had a few issues when my hubby's schedule changes but not a big deal. We either close his door or put the gate up in front of his door. He doesn't come out. Now we don't even do that. We close it when he's sleeping and open it after he sleeps. He doesn't get up till the morning and then he either goes downstairs or comes find me in my room. He's 21m now. We had converted his crib to a toddler bed at about 10m because he decided to climb out. He's pretty good.

That is so gorgeous!! My boy does the same but his first night wasn't so good. He fell out (even with the safety rail attached!) at 2am and scared the life out of all of us!! Luckily, we settled him down, popped him back in and the rest of the night till morning was uneventful.

Been fine at night ever since but the only prob I have now is having to put him back in bed a few time for his midday nap. He will just climb out & play in his room. Now if he hears me coming down the hall, he will quickly jump back into bed and pretend to be sleeping! Sometimes, If I let him go, I find him asleep on the floor covered in teddies!

My son has a book shelf and stuffed animals in his room, but all his toys are in the living room. He actually stays in his bed when he wakes up and does the same thing he did when it was a crib - talk to himself and his stuffed animals and jump on the bed. He seems perfectly happy and doesn't get out of his bed until I come say good morning to him. Then we do potty time and get dressed. I'm amazed at how many of you also had positive experiences and I'm glad ^_^

yes positive experience for me too! My little man is 16 months old and we put him in his big boy bed on the 1st of march. We didnt have a cot that converted so instead we just got a single mattress and put it on the floor with one of those side protectors slide under it so he could not roll out. We have only had one problem so far and that was the first night and he had a very bad cold. Apart from that, he has slept through each night. Sometimes he might wake up a little earlier than he would when in his cot, but when this happens i just go in there and check everything and then put him back to sleep.

Well my son does have the freedom to roam now & can get into his toys. I have baby proofed the entire bedroom, blocked outlets, removed all small toys and anything else that could be harmful to him unsupervised. I have also put a baby gate across his bedroom door, and still use the baby monitor to listen in on him.

I want to do the same with my 2 year old but I am afraid she will get up and get into her toys. What stopped your kids from getting into their toys?

My son started crawling out of his crib at 15 months old, so I changed him over into a toddler bed right away. He did perfect the first night and from then on. He sted in his toddler bed for 4-5 months, but I found it was too small for him. We upgraded to a single race car bed, he absolutely adores it!!! I would suggest if your planning on spending money on a toddler bed to save it, and go right to a single bed.
