my 1 year old doesn't like food with texture, having a hard time getting him to eat new things

My son is 3 and he still won't try anything new. He has a small list of stuff he likes like chicken, cereal, pancakes, and fruits. He's just now liking stuff like bacon and stuff he can't just eat with his fingers. The dr says he'll be ok so you just have to wait till there ready.

My advice would be to just keep offering the foods, one at a time, for about a week and let him see you eating the same thing. I don't know about your little guy, but mine always wants what's on my plate!

I agree - keep gradually changing the texture at whatever pace he will accept. If he continues to resist new foods, though, watch for other symptoms like gagging, crying during meals, or acting like it is painful to swallow. My son has a problem with his esophagus that first manifested as refusal of anything but pureed foods, but with these other symptoms, too. Probably your guy is just adjusting to new stuff, but wanted to put the info out there in case it's something else.

You can try adding mashed up bananas to pureed baby food, and blending fruits in a food processor to gradually larger chunkiness. Try changing just one aspect of a food he likes (either color, taste, or texture) at a time. If he likes a certain cracker or cookie, try dipping that into a new food and maybe he'll lick it off. Good luck!

I'm having the same problem, but figure he'll get the hang of it when he's ready. He can't eat pureed food forever!

I would try making the foods the texture he likes and slowly changing them; I am assuming he does not like the thicker tetures. It will come and soon he will be eating everything.
