My 2 year old son was excited at first about using the potty 'just like daddy'. Now he refuses to go. Any suggestions?

My son is the same way (2 years, 3 mo.) He never sat on the little potty we bought him. We actually sit him on the big potty backwards and he likes that.  He won't tell us when he has to go but if he is in a good mood and we ask him he will usually go. He has pooped one time on the potty but that is it. we use a potty chart. We actually just filled it and he got to go pick out a toy. We also use m&m's too.  I tried to go cold turkey and set the timer for every 20 minutes and he was doing good the first morning but by the afternoon he was sooooo over it and we both started to get frustrated so and I don't want it to be a bad experience for him so I back off because I just don't think he is 100% ready yet. He will get there though......eventually!!! Good Luck and let me know if you come up with something that works!!!

I have twins a boy and a girl. My girl took straight to using the little potty we had bought. But my son did the same thing as yours. When he was 18 months he would sit on the potty and even use it, then he just stopped. After struggling to get him to use the little potty I had bought I found a cushioned seat that fits on the toilet and it has one of his favorite cartoon characters on it. I then bought some poster boards and let him pick out some stickers. He took to the toilet seat with no problems and he got the biggest kick out of putting a sticker on his potty chart. It only took about a week for him to fully grasp the concept of using the toilet.
I have talked to other parents of boys who said their son didn't like the little potty's but would use the big one.
Hope any of this helps and good luck.

My mother-in-law raised two boys as a single mom and she swears by the fruit loop trick. Put one or two fruit loops in the potty and have them aim for a fruit loop! My son is still about 6 mnths away from starting the process but she has always sworn by that!

Maybe he just isn't ready yet.  My son is the same way..he has sat on the potty, he has pooped on it (when I know he has to go), he has told me a couple times that he has pooped, and he plays with the one we got him.  I know he is just not quite there yet with everything though.  I have had other experienced mothers tell me to be patient with the process, keep trying to set him on it, and don't force the issue...especially since he is two.  I have heard boys take longer than girls, and he will go when he is ready.  Best wishes with it.  I understand how nice it would be to get him potty trained, as I hope for the same thing soon!
