Lately, no matter what we feed our son, even the stuff we know he likes, he ends up spitting it out or just won't eat at all. I worry because he isn't getting proper nutrients for his growing body. He prefers to just drink milk. is this just a phase? I even tried giving him Pediasure, but he won't drink it.

Hi Janet, My son is 20 month old and we've been experiencing the same problem. He won't eat a proper meal for days then all of a sudden he'll 'binge' eat. I'm trying not to worry too much and try to make sure that when he eats, it's a nutrious snack. Luckly he loves friut, cereal, cheese and yogurts and seems to be living on them at the moment.

my daughter is 22 months old too... she barley eats anything at all.. at first i used to fight with her about it and send her on a timeout till she was ready to eat, but i found that dinner time was just becoming more annoying than anything... fight everyday with a screaming kid in the highchair ..not fun... i agree with the lalasha.. just keep a healthy mobile snack on hand... not treats though. dont worry about him getting the nutrients he needs... when his body tells him that he needs them, he will eat the food he needs... he also might just not be hungry.. as adults, we eat because its breakfast/lunch/dinner time. children, dont REALLY understad that...well maybe a little, but not completely. children want to eat when their tummys tell them its time, not because the clock tells them its time. a child will NOT starve themselves.. one thing i give my daughter is V8 fusion Juice, or the Sunrype Fruits +veggies.. those both have 2 full servings of friuts and veggies in 1 cup of juice, and its super tasty too. my daughter lOVES it!! hope i could be of some help... but really, i wouldnt worry too much!! good luck!

After experiencing this multiple times with my 5 children, I liken it to "non-growth" time. It's like when a child is eating everything in sight we always say,"must be a growth-spurt". Every one of my children went through this phase many times when they were small and I stopped freaking out with my second one. As long as you make sure that your child is properly hydrated, even if it's only water, they will be fine. Babies and toddlers eat when they're hungry; they're the most hungry when they are growing the most and least hungry when they are growing the least. I think adults forget about that because we eat for a host of reasons, the least of them being hunger.

hi janet, i also had an experience having a hard time feeding my daughter on that age. yes, that's a phase. doctor said that because this is the age wherein children associates with taste, fond of doing activities that is ok..if he doesnt want to eat maybe he's not hugry yet. or maybe tell him some stories about the food he eats. we moms sometimes make stories just to feed them..

dont worry in a couple of months your on will crave for foods..

If she like candy you can always try to give her a lolipop in one hand and watching her fav cartoon, while she is busy try to feed her at the same time so just move the lolipop from her mouth for just a sec while u stick a spoonful of food in just keep doing that no matter how many times a day even if it two spoons at a time I hope that helped it worked with my son but he is alot younger =)
