You have to keep at it! I agree with the other 2 moms. Time outs do work, but you have to keep at it. There are some really great books on strong willed children and it sounds like you may have one. There are some different ways with dealing with a strong willed child that may work better than the typical time out. I have a 9 year old that has ADHD and a 3 year old that doesn't. There were different ways of handling them. Hope that helps!

i agree with krista, time outs work on my boys. they don't care about paddles, taking their toys away, no snacks, etc. time outs and standing in the corner works for them. and then when they do their alotted times, we sit them down and explin why they were there. since mine are only 2 and 4, we give them their age amounted time limits. if they do something they shouldnt be doing, we start it over again. but they get the gist of everything if you stay persistent with one thing and then explin to them why the consequence took place. good luck

You've probably tried everything, but have you been persistent with everything? I find that a lot of times, parents say they've tried everything, and I believe they have.....HOWEVER, they weren't persistent enough in their endeavours.

Time outs really DO work, but you have to explain WHY your child is in time out ON THEIR LEVEL. You tell them that they need to be in time out for (whatever their age is) and that if they get up, the time starts all over again. BE PERSISTENT. Your child will NOT like that a 3 minute time out has turned into a 30 minute time out and will get the picture. You need to keep putting your child back EVERY time they move. Once they've stayed there, you again explain WHY they were put there, ask them to say sorry and then end it positively with a big hug.
