Thanks for asking the hard questions!! I dont have an answer, my baby is 2 and I'll assume he's going to start asking the same question, sorry not clear if your babies dad is just at work or really isnt in the picture, LOL. But some of the replies you have had will help me as my babies father is not and has never been around which is fine with me but trying to explain it to my baby may end up being more of a challenge then I had anticipated!

Is it possible to take him by his work so that he can see where he is during the day?

Definitely direct, honest, and short. He doesn't need details. What he needs to know is that all families are different, and that's okay. My family (me and my siblings) have a very blended family (five adopted and two biological children, from very unique circumstances) and each of us were able to be okay with our situation in the family because our parents were able to explain that our family was different and isn't that cool?! If you make up stories, he'll catch on that you're upset or ashamed, and he'll think that it's something he should be upset or ashamed of.

honesty is always best,it is very important to just sit down with your little one and just simply explain the basic truth..doesnt have to know every detail, just keep it short and simple but be honest....it is amazing what they understand...and then when he gets a little older he will have his own questions and he will ask them in his own time...and of course you will be there to answer them...obviously his father is not in his life so he is counting on you to be his everything....we can only do what we can as parents, but if we keep that communication open no matter what age, its a really good start!!take care and good luck.
