My 3 year old REFUSES to sleep!!! We put her in bed at 8 every night. SAME routine as her whole life and she fights until she finally passes out at 11ish. Then she will wake up at 5 in the morning!! And wake all my other kids! We have tried to keep her in her room, but short of locking her in there, she always escapes! She also does NOT nap. SOme days if I'm lucky she will sleep for an hour or so. But most days she is soooo cranky b/c she is tired!! 6 hours of sleep can NOt be enough for a 3 year old, but I don't know what to do!!! I am out of ideas! Any suggestions?!

you could try lying down with her, then get up and say something like mummys going to the toilet and ill be right back to check on you, make these 'excuses' afew times so she lies there and waits for you to come back then sit with her until she sleeps, as the nights go on and she gets use to this introduce 'mummy is going in the front room and ill come and check on you soon, it may take afew weeks but the reassurance that you will be back is was enough for my son to just start falling asleep there alone. i'd then stroke his head slightly waking him and say good night and give him a kiss he then started sleeping through alone and jumping into my bed inthe morning. good luck!

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON. HE HATES TO GO TO SLEEP AND ITS A FIGHT EVERY NIGHT. HE GETS UP AT THE CRACK OF DAWN TOO, BUT NOW I ALSO TELL HIM TO BE QUITE AND WATCH HIS CARTOONS. I GET HIM HIS JUICE AND BREAKFAST AND HE IS FINE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. THERE ARE TIMES THOUGH THAT HE WANTS EVERYONE UP AND HE WILL GO WAKE UP HIS BROTHER THATS ONE AND HE KNOW I HAVE TO GET UP THEN TOO. ITS REALLY HARD SORRY I DONT HAVE TO MUCH ADVICE FOR U.

Wow that sounds horrible.  Just wondering if she has her own room are shares one.  Is there a night light in her room.  In the morning do you trust her enough to get up and go sit and watch TV by herself.  My 4 year old gets up and comes straight out and turns on the TV, which is programmed to be on cartoons, and lets everyone else sleep.  He has done this since he was 2.   I have a 2 year old he just 2 days ago switched to a big bed and I am teaching him to get up, get his cup out of fridge, and turn on TV.  He is now the first one up.

You are right that 6 hours in not enough.  Kids her age need around 12 hours.  Sorry I dont have much to offer.
