Hello fellow moms. My son is about to turn 9 months old in February, but seems to have no interest in crawling. He 5 words, is able to grab for objects, can sit unassisted, can roll all over the house, han swicth objects from hand to hand, reach for very small objects... I don't see anything that points toward a delay in development. We do tummy time daily. He is a very big fan of his walker and can fly all around the house in it, even is able to steer himself around, turn around and deliberately head somewhere, like follow mommy around. I can hold his hands and he can bear weight without problems and enjoys it. He also can stand and hold onto the couch for a decent amount of time. My daughter crawled by 8 months and walked by age one. I know not to compare, I just want to know that I am on the right track and really shouldn't worry. Thoughts?

My son was 9 1/2 months before he started crawling/. and even then, he looked like he was hopping like a frog instead of crawling. He almost a year now, and he crawls so fast. lol

My daughter started walking before she ever crawled, and that was at around 10 months. So, I was at the same point as you not all too long ago. Don't worry about it. I walked before crawling, my daughter did the same thing. It might not be as common (or as spoken about) but it does happen. The first time my daughter crawled was a couple months after she was walking, and that was after seeing another kid doing it! lol

Keep working with him, since all kids do things their own ways and at their own time. He may have absolutely no interest in crawling since he knows about walking, so maybe try working on that too, so he can have the option. But, as long as he's not showing any physical or developmental problems that could be linked to it, don't stress. =]

Maybe he won't crawl, and will go straight to crawling? Some babies do that. In addition, my son, who is just about 16 months, didn't crawl until he was 10 months, and walked at 13months. No biggie. Is he happy? If so, just relax and go with it. I'm sure he'll just randomly start at any time.

I've heard some kids just skip crawling and go straight to walking... or they develop a funny scoot before walking... I wouldn't be too concerned... could be he's just very laid back and isn't motivated to "GO" for stuff. Get rolling toys to help encourage him... as things roll away, he might be willing to try to get to them.... also, maybe your daughter can help by crawling around for these same rolling toys...

My friend's dauhter never crawled, she just ween straight to walking at 12 months. Some babies just do that, or they take a little longer. My son was crawling at about 7 months, but he didn't start walking until he was almost 16 months! Every baby is different, just because he isn't crawling right now doesn't mean that will matter later on in life.

I have tried motivation... his favorite snacks... his favorite toys. He just gets very upset. He was so close pushing with his toes and even one leg, just went in a circle. We see the pediatrician on Friday so we will see what she says! Thanks everyone for your kinds responses!

my son walked be fore he crawled with assistance from furniture... we had to put him in the middle of the room and put some thing that he wanted about 2ft away... motivation can be the key they need to crawl...

my son would do an army crawl, he wouldn't be up on his hand and feet but he would make his way around the house just fine. one day it just dawned on him that crawling is faster lol. It took him a long time to crawl but he caught on fast when he did

I would express your concerns with the pediatrician. Boys tend to be a little slower sometimes. Good luck.

i would advise to stop using the walker or limit the usage to the minimum. Walkers are useless. We bought the walker when my daughter was 6 months old and never used it. She was crawling at 7 months and at 11 months she started walking. Now she`s 13 months old - running around the house. I would also recommend to do some daily stimulating massage, preferably it should be done by a specialist. And dont worry, every child had an internal clock - sooner or later he`s gonna run around and make you run after him!!

I wouldnt worry...my son was the same and didnt crawl until 10mos and then didnt walk until 14mos.! I know we are always worried...but take advantage of the time you have that he is not mobile...very soon you will be chasing him all over and wishing he would just stay still:)

My daughter didn't crawl or sit up until she was 10 months old. Some babies also skip crawling and start walking. Talk to your pediatrician or child health nurse if you are concerned and they will give you exercises to do to help.
