He wont do any bm in the toilet. He pees standing and goes on his own. But when it comes to his bm's he just wont go. No matter how long I sit him down, the minute I put on his underwear minutes later he goes. and always when I leave the room for a minute. I'm unable to catch him.. I need tips.

Glenda,

I don't know if you've seen my most recent post, but my 3.5 yr old son was the exact same way except he would ask for a pull-up to do bm and then proceed to wear his underwear the rest of the day because he was fully potty trained for the rest.... well I took advice from another mom on this forum.

Here goes:

Step 1 - allow him to go bm in a pull-up but he must be in the bathroom (not in the closet, not in his toy room, etc.) They key is he must be in the bathroom

Step 2 - allow him to go bm in a pull-up but he must be sitting on the toilet. (I took it a step further and had him stand up and I would take his pull-up off and drop the bm into the toilet and did all the clean-up in the bathroom and changed him back into his underwear.

Step 3 - cut a whole in the pull ups and while he is wearing them and sitting on the toilet the bm will fall directly into the toilet. This is the first step in recognizing he is going bm in the toilet.

My son didn't even get to step 3... the consistency of doing step 2 for almost a month was enough until just this weekend (praise God) he just said, "I can do it in the toilet all by myself, I'm a big boy and I don't need diapers anymore!!" So I'm hoping my story gives you hope that there will be a day.

Quoting Priscilla:

Have you tried M&M's? I gave my son one M&M and told him everytime he goes poo poo, I will give him 2! That did the trick.

thx for the tip. i didn't try M&M's but I tried stickers.. He loves stickers and so I bought a sticker chart. He loved it but still didn't work.

my mother-in-law spent the day w/him this past weekend and he went BM in the toilet. I dont know how she did it but he did and its been getting better.
