My Daughter has been waking up after 1-2 hours of sleep at night and having what I call a night tantrum. She is inconsolable, if I try and hold her she screams if I leave her in the crib and rub her back she screams. It's really awuful, was just wondering if any one else has experienced this and if so how to you handle it?

Has your doctor checked for reflux? A friend of mine (who is also here on COM) has been going through the same thing -- her daughter wakes up every hour, screaming.

Here are some of the symptoms of gastro-intestinal reflux:

Frequent spitting up or vomiting (not all babies with GER spit up)
Baby isn't outgrowing the "colic" and/or spitting up
Frequent blasts of crying that are painful cries, not just baby cries
Your gut feeling tells you that your baby "hurts somewhere"
Bursts of nightwaking "as if in pain"
Colicky, abdominal pain after eating, even as long as one hour afterwards
Poor sleep habits, restless
Writhing as if in pain: drawing up legs, arching back
Erratic feeding patterns. Refuses to feed or wants to breast or bottlefeed all the time.
Frequent "wet burps" or "wet hiccups"
Throaty noises: swallowing noises, choking, gagging
Frequent, unexplained colds, wheezing, and chest infections
Stop-breathing episodes
Excessive drooling
Spits up like a "volcano"

If some of those things are ringing alarm bells, then it's worth checking with your doctor. It might be as easy as putting her on Zantac (which is safe for toddlers and babies, by the way).

My daughter does the same from time to time. Doctor thought it was night terrors, told me she was either sleep deprived or anemic. She sleeps about 11h a day and her hematocrit is high normal. Those are the two usual causes at a young age. I tried everything and would up doing a blessing in thier room and that helped. I don't know why but it did. but I would rule out all medical posibilities first.
