She screams when I put her in or when she comes with me in the shower. What should I do?

I do therapy in the home and I saw one mom give her daughter a bath in a small tote box.

My son is the same - he is afraid to get in but once he is - he is happy and does not want to get out - but anything to do with water on his face or head (even drops of rain sometimes) freaks him out. They have water days at his daycare and he freaks out and just sits away from the rest of the kids and watches - we have no idea why because in the past he has loved water, pools and so on - just not dunking his head. It has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs with it and there has been no trauma that has caused his fear at all. We actually had to look all over the place to get hiim a toddler tub that was big enough for him because he wouldnt even get into the big bath tub, We are hoping that we can change this by starting swimming lessons or at least dragging him to the pool throughout the winter. Splash pads are another thing that freaks him out completely. Is there any reason WHY there might be this generalized fear - I havent ever tried the shower on him because i am scared that he wont even get into the tub afterwards!

Try to turn bath time into a fun activity that you think she may enjoy. There are so many things out on the market these days. Also what we have learned with our son is opposites. If you want him to do something then just tell him not to and he does it. Try that out with the bath/shower. Get it ready and then tell her not to go in. For some strange reason kids always like to do the opposite of what we as parents tell them to do. Using the method of opposites is kind of like performing magic. We love it.

My 2 year old son did that for awhile as well. We bought him some new bath toys and we put LOTS of bubbles in his bath so he couldnt really see the water. They also have bath crayons that are pretty awesome, my son thinks its the best thing ever since he can color on the "walls" without getting in trouble, not sure if shes old enough for that yet though.
Good luck! I hope it doesnt last too much longer for you :)

My son was terrified of bath time. Something about the water he just didn't like. We lived in Florida and getting him into a pool was almost impossible. My son took a while to get use to being in water. I never put alot just enough for him to sit in and get wet. like right at the legs. When he got use to that we added more. But he could never be in there while I was running the water. It freeked him out. Hope this helps. My son is still scared of some water but not the tub. He is a fish in the tub now. He is 6.

Maybe try taking her to the store and letting her pick a bath toy out. She might be excited to play with the new toy.
