My Grandaugher is 2 yrs old and she crys at all kinds of noises. Everyday it is something different. Today My daugher started her car and she cried, she cries when a train goes by. When the alert system for the national broadcasting comes on the tv once a week she cries. Has anyone had this problem with there child and if so what is causing it. It almost seems as if anything strange sounding comes about she cries.

Personally, depending how long this has been going on I would be tempted to have her hearing checked.  Crying over some noises like the alert system or higher pitched noises she could have a hearing issue and sensitivity.  Maybe she has an ear infection and some noises are bothersome.  She could have an OCD about these noises going to hurt her.  When you mention the car and trains this makes me think maybe she has thoughts of them running her over.  Not sure but I would check with your dr if this continues for more than 2 wks earlier if you think it could be related to a hearing problem.

There is a book called  The Challenging Child: Understanding, Raising, and Enjoying the Five "Difficult" Types of Children by .  One of the types of children he talks about is the "highly sensitive" child.  I used to care for a little girl like this, wh, even now at age 6, startles easily and is upset by tiny things.

As cindy mentioned, this may have something to do with her hearing.  Some children process sounds differntly than others, and certain pitches may be too intense or even painful for them.  While a hearing test will only determine if she can hear all normal pitches, if this comes back fine, she may need to be seen by an occupational therapist or child development worker if her hearing sensations are abnormal.

Then again, she is 2.  My two-year old son has an active imagination and when he's alone in a room, he runs out and tells me there is a dinosaur in there, and he is very frightened!   Your granddaughter may just be feeling nervous or insecure, and some noises put her nerves on edge and upset her.  One of the girls (2 years) I babysit hates the sound of the smoke detector when I do monthly fire drills.  She cries when she hears it, and she cries when we talk about it, but otherwise isn't bothered by other noises.

Good luck!
