I recently noticed my nephew likes to eat paper and chew on cardboard, i know that this might just be because he might be teething and thought it was kinda cute , but its more than just chewing on it , he acually rips pieces off and eats them. he gets mad whenever you take it away. It may be nothing but i've been reading about a disorder called PICA , where kids crave and eat things that aren't food , i don't just being curious

my daughter is 21 months and a fussy eater. She will sit down and tear up paper and plastic and eat it. I had to put her on an iron supplement for her eating and the paper/plastic eating stopped straight away. one week after taking her off the iron it started again. Often PICA is a sign that a nutrient is missing from the diet or it can be part of something more complex like OCD, Autism, etc. If it is one of these it won't be diagnosed before 3.if he is only 1 it probably is just a phase, they love different textures at this age and paper is so easy for them to manipulate. I certaintly wouldn't worry about it at this age. distraction is probably the best approach

Yeah i guess they did ask about this on his 6 month appointment, and doctors said its just a phase , but now hes turning 1 , and he still does it , i guess i can't be really too concerned because he is still young , just going to have to see if it continues

My daughter is 1 and she will rip paper and shove it in her mouth. Its something new to explore. If its not something that can harm him then maybe just take it away from him and explain we don't eat paper its for colouring, etc...If its very concerning maybe mention to his mom and see if he does it at home or if its maybe a soothing thing to have stuff in his mouth when she isn't around.

I wouldn't worry too much just yet. If he's a toddler it is pretty normal still to put things in their mouths and try and eat it.
And a very normal reaction to get angry when it is taken away from him.

If you are really concerned just mention it to his Mom that the next time he is at the doctor to ask about the paper and cardboard habit.
