My son is 2&1/2 year old and still wants to put his thumb in his mouth for comfort, mostly when he is really tired or already asleep. Is there anything out there that can be place on the thumb with an inquiring taste to eliminate thumb-sucking?

There are creams that you can put on the thumb. You could also look online at one step ahead and I think they sell thumb gaurds.

My experience with my daughter was not to do anything. We never made a big deal about her sucking her thumb, especially when it was only a bedtime thing. She eventually quit on her own, no side effects. My niece, also a thumb sucker, has not stopped yet. She is almost nine now and her parents have always made her feel bad for doing it. They tried everything from nail polish on that thumb to a spiked mouth guard. Nothing changed her habit. So, in my opinion, leave it alone unless you just want a lot of regression later.
