My son is 2 and recently moved to a bed (after falling out of his crib just before Christmas). We are having a difficult time motivating him to get in his bed at bedtime and nap time. Once in his bed, he will stay there and sleep. It's just the initial transition into bed that is challenging. Any tips?

Our daughter had to be put in a big girl bed (we skipped past a toddler and right to a twin bed) at 12 months old, as she was climbing out of her crib by 9-10 months! What we did when we put her in the new bed, to get her into it was bought her a new stuffed animal to sleep with and a new fleece blanket (both of which she got to choose). They stay on her bed, she is NOT allowed to have them unless in bed! If she leaves the bed, for anything, they are not allowed to go with her! She loves having special bed items! Also, if you haven't already let him pick out a bed set or sheets or even just a pillow case, that HE picks out! My daughter was given 3 options for her bedding and allowed to pick from those 3 options. I hope this helps! Good luck and I promise it DOES get better!

Have you tried making the bed more exciting for him? You could get some sheets and or blankets that have a favourite carachter of his (Thomas the train, Bob the builder?)

When my first son was 2 he moved into his own twin bed and we dressed it up with a Thomas comforter and some Thomas throw pillows. We always referred to the bed as his "Thomas bed". That usually did the trick.

Or if he enjoys being read to, you could try having story time in bed before the actual nap. He might look forward to getting into the bed if knowing he will have a book read to him.
