My son is getting too big for his car seat and I would like to move him to a booster. Any recommendations?

Most carseats now days are covertable all the way to a full size seat. Graco makes a nice one that converts from high back to base only. Be sure to look up your state and local laws on carseat requirements, and be careful. There is a law on the books to be passed that requires children up to age 4 or 40 lbs to be in a 5 point harness. If this law passes many kids will have to go back to full seats! The law here in VA where I am is full surround seat until age 3 AND 35 lbs, High Back to age 6 or 60 lbs, and base only seat til age 8 or 80 lbs.

We have our 5 yr old in a Compass carseat since he was 4. You can order it on walmart.com with free shipping to the store. what I liked best about it was that the backrest did not come off and the spine stayed fully protected when adjusting the backrest to different heights. there are 2 cupholders and 2 armrests that move up and out of the way while getting the child in and out. Plus the seat all folds up for easy traveling. It has top of the line marks and safety reviews. If your child is not ready to be out of a 5 point harness though then I recommend Britax Marathon all the way!

What car seat do you currently have and how big is your son? Its safest to keep them in a 5 pt harness vs moving them to a booster. Britax Regent and Sunshine Kids Radian 80 are both designed for extended 5 point harnessing.

I like the "Big Kid" booster seat. It has no back, it is just a seat with arm rests. It fit great in trucks and middle seats. Don't forget that it is the law (In Canada) that you must be 40 pounds before you are in a booster seat.

Graco makes a great booster seat that is reclineable without having to remove the seat. Even with the child sitting in it all you have to do is pull a lever and it will recline to about 3-4 positions. It's great and very safe

Britax makes a great line of car seats! They're not only extremely safe and get excellent reviews but they're comfortable with lots of removable cushioning. And, their car seats have neat patterns to them :o). For our 1-year-old girl we have the "Decathalon" model, and we love it. We have it facing forward, but it has the ability to be a rear-facing carseat if she were smaller. And it sits up high, so she's able to see out the window.

as long as he is at least 34 inches tall and 30 lbs, he should have no problems making the switch! as for the best kind I do not know, since we have not made our switch yet. We just started researching it! goodluck with the switch!
