I recommend putting his bed against yours at first, but nonetheless, HIS bed..(even though it may look a little tacky)

That way, he gets used to sleeping in his OWN bed, but still has the comfort of you being there. That'll probably take a couple weeks. Then, move his bed to the far side of the room, but still in there.

Once that's an okay by him, try to move it in his room. He'll probably cry and be upset but he will be okay! It's unhealthy for a child that big to never feel secure alone so you're doing the right thing letting him cry a bit, but stay there and read or watch a movie until he's good and asleep. Good luck!!!!

We also had this problem with our son,

he wouldn't go in his cot or bed,we tried everything in the end we got him a 3/4 bed and he has slept in it from day one and loves it,our next step is to get him in his own room.
