We have a toddler bed in his bedroom together with his crib however I am so afraid to let him sleep in his toddler bed because he has fallen out of it a couple of times. I want him to learn how to sleep in his bed but I am scared that he will roam around and stick things in his mouth. he likes to sit on his bed during the day but at night he sleeps in his crib! Any suggestions?

There really is no need to rush putting in a toddler bed. My son was 2 1/2 when we put him in a toddler bed because he started to climb out of his crib so we felt it was too dangerous to keep him in it in case he fell out and hit his head on the floor. Putting the bed and crib in the bedroom early on is a good idea though because it wont come as too big of a shock when you remove the crib as he will already be used to it

Let him sleep in his crib awhile. He will eventually move to his toddler bed with no issues and eventually a regular bed. Put it this way, my son is about to be 3 in June, and we still use a crib! If we didn't, he would start a fire or eat some weird stuff in the kitchen, etc. We plan to put him in a regular bed once he turns 3. I think he is ready for a regular bed now, but I just have that time stuck in my head for now....I want him to be safe, and feel safe.

Not a problem, my almost 2 year old still sleeps in her cot. We have ordered a bed for her (still waiting for it..grr) and she is more then happy still sleeping in it. I'm not fussed either way. Whenever u think he is ready then go with that. But yes, u can buy the side rails from any baby store or big w. Good luck.

BUY THOSE SAFETY RAILS AT WALMART. IT WILL KEEP HIM FROM FALLING OUT. I HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM UNTIL MY SON CAME ALONG AND WE HAD TO USE THE CRIB FOR HIM. HE SHOULD BE OK

My son has his birthday middle June and then he'll be 2. We moved his brother out into a big bed when he was 18mths old because this one was to arrive soon and we needed the crib! Then we wanted to move my youngest to a toddler bed last month. What a disaster! I ended up having to sit with him until he fell asleep every night as he would come out of his room 20x in an hour and by then it's WAY past his bedtime, I'm grumpy because I have to keep putting him back in his bed. So the easiest was to just sit next to his bed and wait for him to fall asleep. Almost asleep didn't work either. He had to be totally asleep otherwise he's just up and out again. So we moved him back into his crib as he was waking up in the middle of the night and strolling along in the house! And that is just unsafe: a 22mth old alone in a dark house at night. The worst of all of this is that he forgot how to put himself to sleep. I've been sitting with a child now that can't fall asleep by himself and screams for me to come into his room. Bottom line is that he is just to small still to understand he needs to stay in bed and sleep when it's night time.
Good luck on your decision!

let him take a nap in his toddler bed so he can get more used to sleeping in it, put something soft on the floor so if he does fall it at least won't hurt him.

Good Luck.

I think if you are more comfortable with him sleeping in the crib for now and he isn't trying to climb out yet let him sleep there. But whether you wait or not he is still probably going to get out and explore once or twice, just make sure there is nothing that he can eat. I suggest not using a toddler bed but using a twin or double bed with just a mattress and boxspring on the floor and safety rails if you are afraid of him falling or even just the mattress on the floor so the shorter the fall if he does. OR if you want to use the toddler bed take the crib mattress and put it beside his bed and put the other side against the wall so if he is gonna fall he can only do it on one side and it wont be right onto the floor. Our oldest has been in a double bed since she was 18 months she is 2 now and has never fallen out. Yes she got out and played and still does but when she is ready for bed she gets back in and always has. Our youngest is 15 months now and is in a twin bed now and same thing gets out and plays and back in bed to sleep. And both beds are just the boxspring and mattress on the floor, neither of them has ever fallen out of it.
