My two year old doesn't sleep at night...

My daughter has always had a problem with sleeping through the night, but lately it's starting to get a bit annoying. I've tried cutting her naps during the day down to one, and I'm ready to try no naps at all (even though I don't want to deal with her being THAT cranky!) but would rather not, seeing she still seems so tired during the day. But she will wake up a handful of times at night and want someone there with her until she falls back asleep, which could be an hour some nights. Anyone have any new ideas for me?

I don't necessarily agree with the other mom below who said your daughter doesn't need naps any more. My 22 month old kept waking up in the middle of the night wanting more milk becuase she was a picky eater & wouldn't eat much during the day. I just had to keep trying to find things she'd eat & give her as much as she'd eat throughout the day and feed her 2x before bed (at 6ish and 8ish). Now she sleeps through the night!

Try different things to get her back to sleep, offer her a bit of warm milk in her crib (then brush her teeth in the am), go in and rub her back, read her a few books (if she likes books) in dim lighting in her room, etc.

When kids don't need naps any more, they don't nap, but it sounds like your daughter still likes to nap. I'd keep up her naps as long as she'll take them!

I agree with the PP...sounds like you need to try no naps. We were having the same problem with my daughter....she'd either wake up numerous times a night or not go to sleep until nearly midnight. I let her go a few days without naps, and she slept beautifully. 12 solid hours of sleep. So she no longer naps!

Well I hate to tell ya but I think your child is ready for no naps at all during the day. My son recently went through this were he had trouble going to sleep and would wake up. So cranky or not I didn't let him sleep and boy oh boy one day of no naps he slept like a baby all night. They all reach the age where they no longer need that much sleep. Also I have heard that a little snack before brushing teeth can help you sleep better. Don't know if it is true though, but worth a try I guess. A healthy snack like a piece of cheese I would say. Good luck.

I don't know if this is a new idea or not but here goes. My son started waking up constantly at night while still in his crib. My husband had the idea that maybe he was running out of room and kept bumping into the bars and bumpers and waking his self up. So we switched him to a "Big Boy" bed with a bed rail. Now the only time he wakes up in the middle of the night is when sick or with a bad dream. Good luck.
