My 3 and a half year old bites her finger nails and toe nails, it isn't a nervous habit, she just does it, she says she is biting them because shes hungry but shes just being silly. It seems like she just does it when she is tired or bored. I asked my doctor about it and he said he bites his and its nothing to worry about. I am not worried about germs. I just want her to stop... the bitter nail polish doesnt work, Any one else go through this? she has been doing it for about a year now

Theres all sorts of tonics you can put on her nails to taste bad so she won't bite. My lil girl bit hers for a while but I had everybody tell her off when she did and she finally stopped after a few months. By everybody I mean everybody!! Sometimes things are heard better when Mummy doesn't say it, or when that grown up she adores tells her off for once. I started biting mine as a little kid and still do at 29!! It's horrible. I don't know Im even biting them half the time, it looks stupid when I am biting them and unsightly to see the actual nails (or lack of them). I wish somebody had stopped me when I was little......

My 4 yr old daughter bites her finger nails down so bad that Its hard to polish them. I've noticed that she seems to bite them when she is nervous, anxious, or having to wait for some reason or another. I bring it to her attention everytime I see her doing it. When I was a little older than her, I also bit my finger nails. Then, one day I just stopped, cold turkey, and never have done it again. Hopefully, she will just stop one day!
